Thermal Model Approach to Multisector Three-Phase Electrical Machines

Multisector machines reveal a high fault-tolerant capability, since failure events can be isolated by de-energizing the faulty sector, while healthy ones contribute in delivering required power. This article is focused on thermal analysis of multisector three-phase and operations. First, 3-D lumped parameter network (LPTN) single sector developed finetuned against experimental data, through genetic algorithm for identifying uncertain parameters. According to operating conditions, varying housing surface temperature affects heat exchanged ambient. Hence, an analytical formula proposed adjust natural convection coefficient value depending condition. Then, LPTN, modeling whole machine, built aiming at investigating behavior during conditions. Finally, complete LPTN employed predicting machine performance under several Furthermore, current overload experienced (in order keep same torque level as pre-fault operation) determined, accordance with magnet wire class. The effectiveness experimentally demonstrated.
